2 Chronicles 23:1 (AKJV) American King James Version

1 And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.
2 And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.
3 And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said to them, Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the LORD has said of the sons of David.
4 This is the thing that you shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;
5 And a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD.
6 But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD.
7 And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whoever else comes into the house, he shall be put to death: but be you with the king when he comes in, and when he goes out.
8 So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.
9 Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David's, which were in the house of God.
10 And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.
11 Then they brought out the king's son, and put on him the crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, God save the king.
12 Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the LORD:
13 And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of music, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.
14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said to them, Have her forth of the ranges: and whoever follows her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said, Slay her not in the house of the LORD.
15 So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king's house, they slew her there.
16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the LORD's people.
17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and broke it down, and broke his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.
18 Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.
19 And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the LORD, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in.
20 And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD: and they came through the high gate into the king's house, and set the king on the throne of the kingdom.
21 And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.

2 And they went about H5437 in Judah H3063 , and gathered H6908 the Levites H3881 out of all H3605 M-CMS the cities H5892 of Judah H3063 , and the chief H7218 of the fathers H1 of Israel H3478 , and they came H935 W-VQY3MP to H413 PREP Jerusalem H3389 .
3 And all H3605 NMS the congregation H6951 made H3772 a covenant H1285 NFS with H5973 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS in the house H1004 B-CMS of God H430 D-EDP . And he said H559 W-VQY3MS unto them , Behold H2009 IJEC , the king H4428 D-NMS \'s son H1121 CMS shall reign H4427 , as H834 K-RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath said H1696 VPQ3MS of H5921 PREP the sons H1121 CMS of David H1732 .
4 This H2088 DPRO is the thing H1697 D-NMS that H834 RPRO ye shall do H6213 ; A third part H7992 of H4480 M-PPRO-2MS you entering H935 on the sabbath H7676 , of the priests H3548 and of the Levites H3881 , shall be porters H7778 of the doors H5592 ;
5 And a third part H7992 shall be at the king H4428 D-NMS \'s house H1004 B-CMS ; and a third part H7992 at the gate H8179 of the foundation H3247 : and all H3605 W-CMS the people H5971 shall be in the courts H2691 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
6 But let none H408 W-NPAR come H935 VQY3MS into the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , save H518 PART the priests H3548 , and they that minister H8334 of the Levites H3881 ; they H1992 PPRO-3MP shall go in H935 VQY3MP , for H3588 CONJ they H1992 PPRO-3MP are holy H6944 : but all H3605 W-CMS the people H5971 shall keep H8104 the watch H4931 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
7 And the Levites H3881 shall compass H5362 the king H4428 D-NMS round about H5439 ADV , every man H376 NMS with his weapons H3627 in his hand H3027 B-CFS-3MS ; and whosoever else cometh H935 into H413 PREP the house H1004 D-NMS , he shall be put to death H4191 : but be H1961 ye with H854 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS when he cometh in H935 , and when he goeth out H3318 .
8 So the Levites H3881 and all H3605 W-CMS Judah H3063 did H6213 W-VQY3MP according to all things H3605 K-NMS that H834 RPRO Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 had commanded H6680 VPQ3MS , and took H3947 W-VQY3MP every man H376 NMS his men H376 NMS that were to come in H935 on the sabbath H7676 , with H5973 PREP them that were to go H3318 out on the sabbath H7676 : for H3588 CONJ Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 dismissed H6362 not H3808 NADV the courses H4256 .
9 Moreover Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 delivered H5414 W-VQQ3MS to the captains H8269 of hundreds H3967 spears H2595 , and bucklers H4043 , and shields H7982 , that H834 RPRO had been king H4428 David H1732 \'s , which H834 RPRO were in the house H1004 CMS of God H430 .
10 And he set H5975 W-VHY3MS all H3605 NMS the people H5971 , every man H376 W-NMS having his weapon H7973 in his hand H3027 , from the right H3233 side H3802 of the temple H1004 D-NMS to H5704 PREP the left H8042 side H3802 of the temple H1004 D-NMS , along by the altar H4196 and the temple H1004 , by H5921 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS round about H5439 .
11 Then they brought out H3318 the king H4428 D-NMS \'s son H1121 W-CMP-3MS , and put H5414 W-VQY3MP upon H5921 PREP-3MS him the crown H5145 , and gave him the testimony H5715 , and made him king H4427 . And Jehoiada H3077 and his sons H1121 W-CMP-3MS anointed H4886 him , and said H559 W-VQY3MP , God save H2421 the king H4428 .
12 Now when Athaliah H6271 heard H8085 the noise H6963 CMS of the people H5971 running H7323 and praising H1984 the king H4428 D-NMS , she came H935 W-VQY3FS to H413 PREP the people H5971 into the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS :
13 And she looked H7200 W-VQQ3FS , and , behold H2009 IJEC , the king H4428 D-NMS stood H5975 at H5921 PREP his pillar H5982 at the entering in H3996 , and the princes H8269 and the trumpets H2689 by H5921 PREP the king H4428 D-NMS : and all H3605 W-CMS the people H5971 NMS of the land H776 D-GFS rejoiced H8056 , and sounded H8628 with trumpets H2689 , also the singers H7891 with instruments H3627 of music H7892 , and such as taught H3045 to sing praise H1984 . Then Athaliah H6271 rent H7167 her clothes H899 , and said H559 W-VQY3FS , Treason H7195 , Treason H7195 .
14 Then Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 brought out H3318 the captains H8269 CMP of hundreds H3967 that were set over H6485 the host H2428 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP them , Have her forth H3318 of the ranges H413 PREP : and whoso followeth H935 her , let him be slain H4191 with the sword H2719 . For H3588 CONJ the priest H3548 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Slay H4191 her not H3808 NADV in the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS .
15 So they laid H7760 W-VQY3MP hands H3027 NFD on her ; and when she was come H935 W-VQY3FS to H413 PREP the entering H3996 of the horse H5483 gate H8179 by the king H4428 D-NMS \'s house H1004 CMS , they slew H4191 her there H8033 ADV .
16 And Jehoiada H3077 made H3772 a covenant H1285 NFS between H996 W-PREP him , and between H996 W-PREP all H3605 NMS the people H5971 , and between H996 W-PREP the king H4428 D-NMS , that they should be H1961 the LORD H3068 \'s people H5971 .
17 Then all H3605 CMS the people H5971 went to H935 W-VQY3MP the house H1004 CMS of Baal H1168 , and broke it down H5422 , and broke his altars H4196 and his images H6754 in pieces H7665 , and slew H2026 Mattan H4977 the priest H3548 of Baal H1168 before H6440 L-CMP the altars H4196 .
18 Also Jehoiada H3077 appointed H7760 W-VQY3MS the offices H6486 of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS by the hand H3027 B-CFS of the priests H3548 the Levites H3881 , whom H834 RPRO David H1732 had distributed H2505 VQQ3MS in H5921 PREP the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , to offer H5927 the burnt offerings H5930 CFP of the LORD H3068 EDS , as it is written H3789 in the law H8451 B-CFS of Moses H4872 , with rejoicing H8057 B-NFS and with singing H7892 , as it was ordained by PREP David H1732 .
19 And he set H5975 the porters H7778 at H5921 PREP the gates H8179 CMP of the house H1004 CMS of the LORD H3068 EDS , that none H3808 W-NPAR which was unclean H2931 in any H3605 L-CMS thing H1697 should enter in H935 VQY3MS .
20 And he took H3947 W-VQY3MS the captains H8269 CMP of hundreds H3967 , and the nobles H117 , and the governors H4910 of the people H5971 , and all H3605 NMS the people H5971 NMS of the land H776 D-GFS , and brought down H3381 the king H4428 D-NMS from the house H1004 of the LORD H3068 EDS : and they came H935 W-VQY3MP through H8432 the high H5945 gate H8179 NMS into the king H4428 D-NMS \'s house H1004 CMS , and set H3427 the king H4428 D-NMS upon H5921 PREP the throne H3678 of the kingdom H4467 .
21 And all H3605 CMS the people H5971 NMS of the land H776 D-GFS rejoiced H8055 : and the city H5892 was quiet H8252 , after that they had slain H4191 Athaliah H6271 with the sword H2719 .
