Habakkuk 2:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 I will stand like a guard and watch. I will wait to see what the Lord will say to me. I will wait and learn how he answers my questions.
2 The Lord answered me, "Write down what I show you. Write clearly on a sign so that the message will be easy to read.
3 This message is about a special time in the future. This message is about the end, and it will come true. Just be patient and wait for it. That time will come; it will not be late.
4 This message cannot help those who refuse to listen to it, but those who are good will live because they believe it.
5 "Wine can trick a person. In the same way a strong man's pride can fool him, but he will not find peace. He is like death— he always wants more and more. And, like death, he will never be satisfied. He will continue to defeat other nations and to make those people his prisoners.
6 But soon enough, all those people will laugh at him and tell stories about his defeat. They will laugh and say, 'It's too bad that the man who took so many things will not get to keep them! He made himself rich by collecting debts.'
7 "Strong man, you have taken money from people. One day they will wake up and realize what is happening, and they will stand against you. Then they will take things from you, and you will be very afraid.
8 You have stolen things from many nations, so they will take much from you. You have killed many people and destroyed lands and cities. You have killed all the people there.
9 "Look at you people! You get rich by cheating people, and it hurts your own family! You build you houses high on the cliffs to protect yourself from danger.
10 You planned shameful things, and that will bring shame to your own family. You have done wrong, and it will cost you your life.
11 The stones of the walls will cry out against you. Even the wooden rafters in your own house will prove that you are wrong.
12 "Look at them! They kill people to build their city and do wicked things to make their walled city strong.
13 But the Lord All-Powerful has decided that a fire will destroy everything that those people worked to build. All their work will be for nothing.
14 Then people everywhere will know about the Glory of the Lord. This news will spread just as water spreads out into the sea.
15 It will be very bad for those who become angry and make other people suffer. Like an angry drunk, they knock others to the ground and strip them naked, just to see their naked bodies.
16 "But they will know the Lord's anger. It will be like a cup of poison in the Lord's right hand. They will taste that anger, and then they will fall to the ground like drunks. "Evil ruler, you will drink from that cup. You will get shame, not honor.
17 You hurt many people in Lebanon and stole many animals there. So you will be afraid because of the people who died and because of the bad things you did to that country. You will be afraid because of what you did to those cities and to the people who lived there."
18 Their false god will not help them, because it is only a statue that someone covered with metal. It is only a statue, so whoever made it cannot expect it to help. That statue cannot even speak!
19 Look at them! They speak to a wooden statue and tell it, "Get up! Rescue me." They talk to a stone that cannot speak and say, "Wake up!" Don't you know those things cannot help you? That statue may be covered with gold and silver, but there is no life in it.
20 But the Lord is different. The Lord is in his holy temple, so the whole earth should be silent in his presence and show him respect.

2 And the LORD H3068 EDS answered H6030 me , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Write H3789 the vision H2377 , and make it plain H874 upon H5921 PREP tables H3871 , that H4616 L-CONJ he may run H7323 VQY3MS that readeth H7121 it .
3 For H3588 CONJ the vision H2377 is yet H5750 ADV for an appointed time H4150 , but at the end H7093 it shall speak H6315 , and not H3808 W-NPAR lie H3576 : though H518 PART it tarry H4102 , wait H2442 for it ; because H3588 CONJ it will surely come H935 , it will not H3808 W-NPAR tarry H309 .
4 Behold H2009 IJEC , his soul H5315 NMS-3MS which is lifted up H6075 is not upright H3474 in him : but the just H6662 W-AMS shall live H2421 by his faith H530 .
5 Yea H637 W-CONJ also , because H3588 CONJ he transgresseth H898 by wine H3196 D-NMS , he is a proud H3093 man H1397 NMS , neither H3808 W-NPAR keepeth at home H5115 , who H834 RPRO enlargeth H7337 his desire H5315 NMS-3MS as hell H7585 K-NMS , and is as death H4194 , and cannot H3808 W-NPAR be satisfied H7646 , but gathereth H622 unto H413 PREP-3MS him all H3605 NMS nations H1471 D-NMP , and heapeth H6908 unto H413 PREP-3MS him all H3605 NMS people H5971 :
6 Shall not H3808 D-NPAR all H3605 these H428 PMP take up H5375 a parable H4912 NMS against H5921 PREP-3MS him , and a taunting H4426 W-NFS proverb H2420 against him , and say H559 , Woe H1945 to him that increaseth H7235 that which is not H3808 NPAR his ! how long H5704 PREP ? and to him that ladeth H3513 himself with thick clay H5671 !
7 Shall they not H3808 D-NPAR rise up H6965 VQY3MP suddenly H6621 that shall bite H5391 thee , and awake H3364 that shall vex H2111 thee , and thou shalt be H1961 W-VQQ2MS for booties H4933 unto them ?
8 Because H3588 CONJ thou H859 PPRO-2MS hast spoiled H7997 many H7227 AMP nations H1471 NMP , all H3605 NMS the remnant H3499 of the people H5971 NMP shall spoil H7997 thee ; because of men H120 NMS \'s blood H1818 , and for the violence H2555 of the land H776 GFS , of the city H7151 NFS , and of all H3605 NMS that dwell H3427 therein .
9 Woe H1945 to him that coveteth H1214 an evil H7451 AMS covetousness H1215 NMS to his house H1004 L-CMS-3MS , that he may set H7760 L-VQFC his nest H7064 on high H4791 BD-NMS , that he may be delivered H5337 from the power H3709 M-CFS of evil H7451 AMS !
10 Thou hast consulted H3289 shame H1322 to thy house H1004 by cutting off H7096 many H7227 AMP people H5971 NMP , and hast sinned H2398 against thy soul H5315 .
11 For H3588 CONJ the stone H68 GFS shall cry out H2199 of the wall H7023 , and the beam H3714 out of the timber H6086 M-CMS shall answer H6030 VQY3MS-3FS it .
12 Woe H1945 to him that buildeth H1129 VQPMS a town H5892 GFS with blood H1818 , and establisheth H3559 W-VPI2MS a city H7151 NFS by iniquity H5766 !
13 Behold H2009 IJEC , is it not H3808 D-NPAR of the LORD H3068 EDS of hosts H6635 that the people H5971 NMP shall labor H3021 in the very H1767 B-CMS fire H784 CMS , and the people H3816 W-NMP shall weary H3286 themselves for very H1767 B-CMS vanity H7385 ?
14 For H3588 CONJ the earth H776 D-GFS shall be filled H4390 VNY3FS with the knowledge H1847 of the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 EDS , as the waters H4325 cover H3680 the sea H3220 NMS .
15 Woe H1945 unto him that giveth his neighbor drink H8248 , that puttest H5596 thy bottle H2573 to him , and makest him drunken H7937 also H637 W-CONJ , that H4616 L-CONJ thou mayest look H5027 on H5921 PREP their nakedness H4589 !
16 Thou art filled H7646 with shame H7036 NMS for glory H3519 : drink H8354 thou H859 PPRO-2MS also H1571 CONJ , and let thy foreskin be uncovered H6188 : the cup H3563 of the LORD H3068 EDS \'s right hand H3225 shall be turned H5437 unto H5921 PREP thee , and shameful spewing H7022 shall be on H5921 PREP thy glory H3519 .
17 For H3588 CONJ the violence H2555 of Lebanon H3844 shall cover H3680 thee , and the spoil H7701 of beasts H929 , which made them afraid H2865 , because of men H120 NMS \'s blood H1818 , and for the violence H2555 of the land H776 GFS , of the city H7151 NFS , and of all H3605 W-CMS that dwell H3427 therein .
18 What H4100 IGAT profiteth H3276 the graven image H6459 that H3588 CONJ the maker H3335 thereof hath graven H6458 it ; the molten image H4541 , and a teacher H3384 of lies H8267 , that H3588 CONJ the maker H3335 of his work H3336 trusteth H982 therein H5921 PREP-3MS , to make H6213 L-VQFC dumb H483 idols H457 ?
19 Woe H1945 unto him that saith H559 to the wood H6086 LD-NMS , Awake H6974 ; to the dumb H1748 stone H68 , Arise H5782 , it H1931 PPRO-3MS shall teach H3384 ! Behold H2009 IJEC , it H1931 PPRO-3MS is laid over H8610 with gold H2091 NMS and silver H3701 , and there is no H369 NPAR breath H7307 NFS at all H3605 W-CMS in the midst H7130 B-CMS-3MS of it .
20 But the LORD H3068 W-EDS is in his holy H6944 temple H1964 : let all H3605 NMS the earth H776 D-GFS keep silence H2013 before H6440 M-CMP-3MS him .
